Budgeting for a World on Fire ❤️🔥
A new group coaching offering. Register by April 16.
What’s the point of saving for emergencies when it feels like the world is on fire? What’s the point of saving for retirement when it seems like World War III is underway? What’s the point of saving up for a car when trans people in Kansas are getting their driver’s licenses revoked?
If you’re asking the same questions, I invite you to join us for the fourth cycle of Budgeting for a World on Fire, a 12-week group coaching program for people who want to learn how to manage their money without bypassing the current state of the world.
Yes, we’ll cover financial nuts and bolts – making a budget, paying off debt, and building your emergency fund. But much more than that, this is a space to move through grief and imagine what your life and communities will look like in a post-capitalist world.
We can’t talk about money without talking about systemic oppression
This group coaching program is for people who understand this fundamental truth. We recognize that, for queer, trans and BIPOC folks, it’s impossible to make progress on your own financial goals until you make space for the impact that capitalism has had on your financial reality.
This group coaching program is for you if:
You’ve had financial goals that you’ve been working on for a while, but you can’t seem to make the habits stick
You value transparency and radical truth-telling
You want to build collective wealth in alignment with your values
You want an opportunity to grieve, dream, and envision while the institutions around us crumble
You have steady income through a job that pays you every 2 weeks or predictable freelance gigs; Honestly, this group won’t be helpful if you’re in a crisis.
About your facilitators
Leo Aquino (they/he) is the founder of Queer & Trans Wealth. Leo has helped hundreds of queer and trans people make budgets, pay off debt, and build emergency savings. Leo is also an award-winning journalist, writing stories about personal finance from an anti-capitalist lens.
We’re excited to introduce you to our new Co-Educator, Jordan Taylor (they/them) is a multi-disciplinary artist and peer support specialist with a commitment to Disability Justice. Jordan’s approach to finance is rooted in centering lived experience, anti-carceral care, and community. You’ll read more about Jordan in Wednesday’s newsletter.
The logistics
This 12-week group coaching program meets weekly from April 20 to July 6. We’ll meet on Zoom on Mondays, 4-5:30 pm PDT.
We’ll have 90-minute workshops every other week. In between workshops, we’ll have a Q+A with your facilitators, Leo and Jordan, followed by one hour of quiet coworking time so you can work on your budget, or any other tasks you’ve been procrastinating on.
We’ll record each workshop and Q+A and upload them on a platform that you can access for up to 1 year after the group coaching program.
Here’s what we’ll cover each week
📆 April 20: Visioning and dreaming for yourself
📆 May 4: Budgeting 101
📆 May 18: Unpacking money grief
📆 June 1: Setting realistic goals – a hard numbers chat
📆 June 15: Intro to Solidarity Economy
📆 June 29: Visioning and dreaming – communities & microeconomies
The Q+A and coworking dates are:
📆 April 27, May 11, May 25, June 8, June 22, July 6
We realize that May 25 is Memorial Day and July 6 is the tail end of the 4th of July weekend. If you’re planning on spending those days catching up on life admin, please come through!
While we think everyone could benefit from the Q+A and dedicated working time, it’s okay to miss one or two of these sessions. So if you’re traveling during those holiday weekends, don’t worry! You’ll still get a lot out of this group coaching program.

Frequently asked questions
I don’t have stable income right now. Is this program right for me?
Honestly, no.
This group is designed to help people with their spending habits and relationship with money – which is a lot more accessible if you have stable income through a job that pays a biweekly paycheck or reliable freelance gigs. We don’t want to waste your time or money on a service you don’t need.
How many people will be in our group?
Registration is capped at 35 people.
Do you offer free consultations or discovery calls?
No, we are not in a position to give free consultations or discovery calls about this group right now.
Will we talk about taxes or investing in this group?
No. We are not tax or investment professionals.
I’m not queer or trans, but I identify as an anti-capitalist. Can I still join?
No. But Leo is happy to work with you 1:1. Schedule a call using this link.
Do you offer any discounts?
Anyone who has been a part of our group coaching program in the past can sign up with their original rate.
If you and a friend sign up together, you each get $200 off tuition. Please email us at hello@queerandtranswealth.org to set this up.
Other than that, we don’t offer any discounts.
